Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental treatment principles that apply to the management of CLBP patients.
  2. Develop an effective clinical assessment protocol to be used in the evaluation of first-time patients presenting with complaints of nontraumatic chronic low back pain (CLBP).
  3. List which non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment options are most effective based on the best available evidence.
  4. Select patient assessment tools that best quantify patient mood, intensity and chronicity of pain, and level of physical disability.
  5. Outline how depression treatment is integrated into CLBP care.
